Your message is sitting unread, or it was read by somebody who had nothing to add and moved on. Nobody has made a decision about you. The thread looks the same whether you sent it forty seconds ago or last Tuesday.

Somebody read what you sent, chose not to answer, and carried on. The withholding is an act. Usually it means the honest answer would be awkward to put in writing, or that answering costs them more than staying quiet.

An empty thread is not a message. It is the space where a message is not, and every absence looks the same as every other. The blank left by a seller who is asleep is pixel for pixel the blank left by a seller who read your question about a late parcel and would rather not commit an answer to a log.

Most people fill that space in themselves. They read tone into nothing at all. Two days becomes rudeness, four days becomes contempt, and by the weekend they are arguing with somebody who has not said a word to them. The argument is real. The other party in it is imaginary.

What the empty thread actually records

Your side of the exchange records one fact and one fact only: you sent something. Whether it arrived, whether it was opened, whether it was read by the person you meant it for, none of that is visible to you and no interface here owes it to you. A message showing as sent has told you about your own outbox.

So the reading has to come from somewhere else. Not from the thread, and not from how long you have been staring at it.

Look at what the account did instead of replying

A person who is not there produces nothing anywhere. A person who is there and choosing not to answer usually leaves ordinary activity behind while your thread stays empty. That contrast is the thing to look for.

  1. Fix the time you sent the message. That is your starting line, and without it the rest is guesswork.
  2. Reach the account through the market's own listings rather than a saved link, and read what is on its page now.
  3. Compare that against what you remember from when you wrote. Fresh listings, edited stock, an altered price, a rewritten profile line: any of it counts as a hand on the wheel.
  4. If the account has plainly been handled since your message went in, the quiet is a choice somebody made. If nothing anywhere has moved, you have no reading, and no reading is the honest result.

That last outcome is the one people refuse to accept. No information is a real answer. It is not permission to assume the worst and it is not reassurance either, and treating it as a verdict in either direction is how sensible buyers talk themselves into expensive moves.

Two wrong readings, two different bills

If you treat silence as being ignored
You escalate against somebody who has refused you nothing. Sharp follow ups, an early formal complaint, a poor rating left in temper. All of that lands on a counterparty who might have been about to help, and none of it comes back off cleanly.
If you treat being ignored as silence
You wait politely while the deadlines that protect you count down. Automatic release does not pause for good manners, and the window in which anybody but the two of you can act on an order closes on schedule.

The second is the expensive direction, and it is expensive in a way that builds. Patience costs nothing right up until a deadline passes, at which point it costs the order. Impatience costs goodwill, which stings and is survivable. Weigh those against each other rather than against how annoyed you are.

What to do with either result

If it is silence
Do nothing, quietly. Leave the thread alone, open the order page and note the dates that matter, then set your own reminder well before the earliest of them. One follow up after a real interval is fair. A fourth before lunch is not.
If it is being ignored
Stop addressing the party who has already decided not to speak. Take it to whatever formal route the market provides inside its own interface, and take it there with days in hand rather than hours.

An account that has gone quiet and an account that is no longer there are also two different things, and that pair has its own page at a vendor gone quiet or a vendor account gone. If your trouble is a message that did arrive rather than one that did not, market support or somebody using the name is the better fit.

How long should I wait before deciding I am being ignored?

Duration is not the thing that separates them. A day of quiet from an account that has posted four new listings tells you more than a fortnight of quiet from an account that has done nothing at all. Watch activity rather than the calendar, and let the deadlines on your order set your pace.

Does no reply mean the vendor has taken my money?

No. It means no reply. Funds held in escrow are governed by the market rules and the dates attached to the order, not by whether anyone is chatting to you. Read the order page for the dates and act on those.

Should I send the same message again?

One repeat after a genuine interval is reasonable, and after that the repeats are for your benefit rather than theirs. If the account is active and still not answering, more messages will not change the decision that has already been taken.
